Waste recycling

A team of four employees ensures the smooth processing and disposal of the various types of waste. The water treatment of the five wastewater treatment plants, the further processing of the sewage sludge and the delivery of foreign sludge and faeces from other plants generate a wide variety of wastes.
The sewage sludges are transported to the drying and thermal sludge processing plant of the St. Lorenzen wastewater treatment plant, where they are processed and disposed of properly. About 24,000 tons of sewage sludge are produced here every year. In addition, each wastewater treatment plant produces foreign faeces and residual materials, which must be disposed of and documented in a traceable manner.

Acceptance of foreign sludges and faeces

+

6 employees ensure the proper acceptance, processing and documentation of the foreign faeces and foreign sludges delivered to the wastewater treatment plants. On average, about 15.000 tons of sewage sludge per year are accepted and processed by external wastewater treatment plants. The remaining 9.000 tons come from the company's own wastewater treatment plants. About 1.200 tons of foreign faeces are accepted and processed at the AG's wastewater treatment plants each year. For this are necessary:

  • Organizing the delivery of foreign sludges
  • Check and analyse the foreign sludges
  • Assign the foreign sludges to the corresponding product stream
  • The documentation of the supplied foreign sludges and foreign faeces

Sludge recycling

+

The St. Lorenzen wastewater treatment plant operates a sludge drying and incineration plant for sewage sludge. On average, 500 tons of sewage sludge are dried per week. Of these, about 120 tons remain as dry granulate. This dry granulate is then mineralised in the thermal sludge utilisation plant. Of the initial 24,000 tons of sewage sludge per year, approx. 1,200 tons of inert material remain. This is disposed of and reused as recycled material, thus closing the cycle. Therefore are necessary:

  • Constant monitoring of emissions to air, soil and water
  • Ensuring plant availability through continuous maintenance and repair work
  • The further development of the plants
  • The continuous training and further education of the operating personnel
  • Document and pass on the accumulated knowledge

Waste disposal

+

6 employees take care of the professional disposal of the various residual materials such as sand 120t per year, screenings 350t per year, inert material 1.200t per year, filter ash 200t per year and other waste such as oils, etc. This service includes:

  • Organization of transports
  • Loading of residual materials
  • The proper disposal of residual materials by authorized external companies
  • Documentation of transports
